Winnetka Public Schools Foundation
2012 Phone-A-Thon March 4th and 5th
The Phone-A-Thon is the Winnetka Public Schools Foundation's annual fundraising initiative. Each winter, board members reach out with phone calls to the Winnetka community seeking monetary support for the Foundation, which enriches the District 36 school system. For the past 16 years the Foundation has funded innovative programs that:
- Enable teachers to pilot creative learning strategies
- Enhance curriculum, instruction and assessment throughout the District
- Promote schoolwide initiatives in social/emotional learning
Why give? As education advocates and leading thinkers like Yong Zhao, Thomas Friedman and others argue, it is the ability to innovate, imagine, adapt and create that will enable our kids to have a promising future and the US to be a world leader. To accomplish these goals, our education system needs to focus on strong fundamentals … and more. We are proud of the contribution the Foundation makes each year to District 36, and we thank all of our donors for their tremendous and ongoing support. If you have not given in the past, we hope that you will familiarize yourself with the work of the Foundation and answer the call this year. After all, it's for our kids!
About Us
The goal of the Winnetka Public Schools Foundation is to enhance the outstanding education of our District. The Foundation was begun in 1995 as a volunteer-based, not-for-profit organization whose purpose is to enrich and extend the educational mission of the community’s public schools beyond the means of conventional public funding.
Since its inception, the Foundation has provided over $4.2 million in funding support to the school district. For the past several years, our average annual contribution to the Winnetka Public School district has been about $150,000.
With these generous donations from the Winnetka community, the Foundation expands our District’s multi-disciplinary emphasis, brings programs to teachers and students that would otherwise not be possible and provides numerous opportunities for ongoing learning and creativity. The Foundation is widely supported by parents of students and the community at large. The Foundation is very proud of the impact its programs have on our children each and every day – both in the “traditional” academic sense and in the area of social and emotional learning – areas that are equally important in educating and developing our children.
In addition to providing programs that otherwise would not be possible, the community support for the Foundation helps us continue to attract the cadre of teachers that seek to work in our District. The Foundation has earned the respect of other foundations both here in Illinois and nationally.
